Vintage waitresses greeted the Greek community in West End last week when Brisbane’s Greek Cafes: A Million Malted Milks was launched at AHEPA Hall. After sipping strawberry milkshakes through paper straws, the audience learned about the A-Z of Greek cafe culture, starting with the oyster saloons of the 1890s and following the fortunes of those who ran milk bars, confectioneries, fruit shops and takeaways right up to the early 2000s.
